Learning Studios At OLPH, our learners are grouped into multi-aged studios, and our teachers are their guides and coaches. Teachers deliver lessons using a combination of whole group, small group, and one-on-one instruction. Teachers set growth goals, analyze classroom data, and plan instruction according to the personalized needs of each learner.
Religion
At Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School, our Catholic faith is not simply one subject we teach—it is the core of who we are and everything we do. Our mission is to help each child grow academically, socially, emotionally, and, most importantly, spiritually.
Religion is intentionally woven throughout the school day. Through prayer, religious instruction, participation in Mass, service to others, and the example of our faculty and staff, students are encouraged to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and understand what it means to live out their Catholic faith.
The Sacraments are an essential part of that formation. We recognize that preparing children to receive and understand the Sacraments is a sacred responsibility shared by the family, parish, and school. Through preparation for Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and other opportunities to participate in the sacramental life of the Church, students learn that their faith is something to be lived—not simply learned.
At OLPH, we strive to ensure that our students leave us with more than a strong academic foundation. We want them to know who they are as children of God, understand the teachings of the Catholic Church, recognize the importance of prayer and the Sacraments, and develop a desire to serve others with compassion and love.
Faith is at the heart of OLPH. It guides what we teach, how we teach, how we treat one another, and how we prepare our students to go out into the world and live as disciples of Christ.
Reading and Writing We believe all students are readers and writers. We know that students get better at reading by reading, and students get better at writing by writing. Our reading and writing block follows a modified workshop model. We use a combination of high-quality teacher-led instruction and high-quality online instruction to meet the needs of each learner.
Math We believe all students are mathematicians. Our math blocks focus on individualized learning paths to help students master mathematical skills. Teachers use classroom data to drive lesson plans and instruct and coach students at their current level. Our teachers focus on small teacher-led instruction paired with personalized online pathways to meet the needs of each student.
Science and Social Studies We believe in a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to Science and Social Studies. Project-based learning allows our students to deepen their understanding through the exploration of real-world scenarios and challenges. Science and Social Studies learning objectives are also woven throughout the curriculum as we discover common themes, issues or problems in reading, writing, and math.
Extracurricular Classes
Music gives students an opportunity to develop creativity, confidence, and an appreciation for the arts. Music also plays an important role in our Catholic identity as students learn how music enhances prayer, worship, and participation in the Mass.
Spanish introduces students to another language and culture while developing communication skills and a greater appreciation for the diverse world around them. Early exposure to a second language provides a foundation students can continue building upon throughout their education.
Physical Education promotes healthy habits, movement, teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance. Through PE, students learn the importance of caring for their bodies, working cooperatively with others, and developing skills that encourage an active and healthy lifestyle.
